Organic tapioca maltodextrin is the star here, chosen for its more highly branched carbohydrate structure, which is easier on the gut than that of corn- or rice-derived maltodextrin. What I use is certified organic, gluten- and soy-free, and non-GMO, to boot.
Non-organic maltodextrin, dextrose, and sucrose (cane sugar) all come with environmental and/or digestive drawbacks I did not want to accept in a product I would be using so much of.
Crystalline fructose, also known as fruit sugar, means your body is able to use multiple digestion pathways to convert different carb sources into energy more effectively. This tends to be a lot easier on an active digestive system.
Organic freeze-dried lemon & lime, as in whole organic citrus fruit, pulverized into a dissolvable powder for a flavor you can enjoy for bottle after bottle. Using the whole fruit means peel, pith, and juice all go into your Onanon, providing a nice mellow tang and the antioxidants to combat oxidative stresses resulting from exercise.
How to Mix It
87g onanon = 80g carbohydrates = 320 calories
This is about three heaping scoops from the included compostable measuring scoop, which I find to be nice mixed with water in a bottle from 500–750mL.
This is nice for a 1–2 hour range across a longer ride. You can mix onanon to whatever strength you desire, depending on pace/sweat levels.
While I intentionally made this with more electrolytes than other drink mixes, I also use electrolytes such as Onanon Lyte to defend against cramps or wooziness, especially on hot, sweaty days.
